Dick is 80?!?! Good grief! I remember him (and Winifred, of course) well from my time in Physics (undergrad 1971-75, then postgrad 1975-78). He was partly responsible for my initial direction as an academic. Roger Cowley caused my fascination with condensed matter and Dick fired me up about Optics. The result was a foray into Raman Spectroscopy. Eventually, I had to jump ship into Electronics to get a job(!), bidding Physics a fond farewell in the early 1980s.
Please pass on my love and greetings to both Dick and Winifred.
